February was supposed to be an easy month for the Dallas Mavericks. It has not been. With injuries to Dwight Powell and Luka Doncic, plus time missed by Seth Curry and Kristaps Porzingis, February has been brutal. But it’s not all because of the injuries.
Even with the injury problems they’ve had, recent games against the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and Washington Wizards were certainly winnable. With the Utah Jazz coming into Dallas Monday night on the second night of a back-to-back, the Mavericks had a chance to get a solid win.
But once again, their energy was lacking, their focus seemed to be elsewhere, and their intensity was lower than mine on a Monday evening.
Would they have beat the Jazz without Luka? Maybe not. But the defensive lapses and lack of heart were troubling.
In this episode of Dallas Hoops Fancast, we recap the game and talk about what went wrong. (Spoiler: a lot of things went wrong.)
We also talk about the rumors of the Mavericks signing Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (which is now a reality) and what we think of the move. Will his defense make an impact on the team? What about his lack of shooting?
