Dallas Hoops Fancast – Season 3, Episode 35
He’s back! Luka Doncic made his first appearance after missing 7 games due to a sprained ankle. Those were rough times, but we made it through it. Did I shed a tear when I saw Luka for the first time tonight? Maybe. Did I sleep more soundly than I’ve slept in a while. Also maybe. Am I ashamed of loving my son? Of course not. That’s something you can never take away me.
And this wasn’t no ‘He’s back but he’ll have to shake off the rust’ kind of game. Luka was BACK. He nearly had a triple-double with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists. He hit three 3-pointers and made 10 of his 18 shots.
What made this game even better was that both he and Kristaps Porzingis were firing on all cylinders. Kristaps finished with 27 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 5 assists. He made three-pointers, crossovers, pull-ups, and dunks. He was all over the court and he and Luka found a synergy we haven’t seen in a while.
Was this game the formula for how that dynamic duo should function?
In this episode of Dallas Hoops Fancast, we talk about Luka’s return and what we saw from the Luka/KP duo.
We also talk about the Mavericks’ newest player, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. How does he fit on the team? What position will he play? What’s his ceiling? Will his jump shot improve? We dig into MKG’s game and what Mavs fans can expect while he’s in Dallas.
This was the Mavs’ last game before the All-Star break. It was nice to end with a win. Hopefully the Mavs can go on a good run after the break. Guys like Seth Curry and Jalen Brunson have played well in their new roles. Willie Cauley-Stein is still being integrated so there’s more to see there. The rest of the season could be exciting!
