Dallas Hoops Fancast – Season 3, Episode 19
The Dallas Mavericks ended their road trip on a high note, beating the New Orleans Pelicans 118-97 on Tuesday night. Luka Doncic did another amazing thing. Surprise, surprise. J.J. Barea even made an appearance!
In this episode, Martin and I discuss if that is the best plan. Was Kristaps successful with that in the past? Are there ways he needs to improve?
It’s true, the Mavericks need Porzingis to be their second star if they want to make a deep Playoff run, but coming back from a torn ACL isn’t easy. Perhaps this isn’t the year we’ll see The Unicorn in action.
But that’s just one negative thing. There were plenty of positives in this game. JJ Barea made an appearance and helped the Mavs get their footing after a slow start. Seth Curry got on fire during this game. And because it was a blowout, their starters didn’t have to play too many minutes.
That’s a good thing, because this was the first night of a back-to-back. The Mavericks play the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night. The fact that Luka, Kristaps, and Tim Hardaway Jr. didn’t log heavy minutes is key.
The Mavericks are on a roll right now. After a bumpy start to the season, they’ve now catapulted into the top of the Western Conference rankings and have one of the best offenses in the history of the NBA. On top of that, Luka’s case for MVP gets stronger every day.
In this episode of Dallas Hoops Fancast, we discuss why this is a big win, what it says about this team, what the Mavericks can do to get Kristaps more involved, if J.J. Barea is getting enough minutes, and, of course, Luka’s big night.
